Personal productivity with AI that remembers your work week
The Notebook is a personal operating system inside Oestler — to-do management and AI assistance in one place.
Start Pay As You GoTo-do lists connected to your engineering brain
Break broad tasks into focused sub-tasks, combine related items, and let Janus AI refine your work week.
To-Do Lists
Multiple lists per user. Drag-to-reorder. Every task carries a full audit trail: created, modified, split, merged, completed — all timestamped and attributed.
Split & Merge
Break broad tasks into focused sub-tasks via the Split modal. Combine related items into one with Merge. Lineage is preserved in the audit record.
AI Refine & Suggest
Janus reviews your task list and proposes rewrites (Refine) or entirely new tasks (Suggest). Side-by-side comparison before any change is applied.
Shared Lists
Invite project members to a shared list via email. Collaborators can add, complete, and reorder tasks directly from their own Notebook.
Comments & Audit
Add a comment when completing or disregarding a task. The full TodoInfo modal shows the complete history of any task — reversible at any point with the Revert action.
Draft History
Every Janus suggestion and AI-generated change is logged. Review and roll back to any prior version of a task without losing the audit chain.
Kanbans
Visualise any list as a Kanban board. Drag cards between Backlog, In Progress, and Done columns. Board state stays in sync with the list view — switch freely between the two.
Slates
A freeform scratch-pad linked to each list. Write notes, paste references, and draft outlines alongside structured tasks. Slates persist across sessions and surface in search.
Me Graph
A visual timeline of your task completions, splits, merges, and AI interactions. Spot productivity patterns across the day and the work week without any manual tracking.
Roadmaps
Plot tasks and milestones on a horizontal timeline. Assign dates, drag to reschedule, and share the Roadmap view with stakeholders without exporting anything.
Four modes of reasoning with persistent, project-grounded memory
Janus accumulates memory across sessions — drawing on your tasks, conversations, and project context to assist across four distinct cognitive modes.
Ask
General Q&A grounded in your project context and connected manuals. Ask anything about your work without re-explaining context each session.
Reflect
Retrospective analysis of your week using task completions, chat history, and memory fragments. Daily to-do summaries feed into Reflect automatically.
Plan
Forward-looking priority and sprint planning. Janus surfaces what needs attention next based on what you've told it and what your tasks say.
Debate
Structured adversarial reasoning across three simultaneous roles: Advocate For, Advocate Against, and Adjudicator. Each role has its own configurable persona.
Persistent Memory
Janus extracts memory fragments from every conversation and stores them long-term, tagged by source: Chat, Manual, or Todos. Mute or delete individual entries at any time.
Memory Frequency
Configure how often Janus distils conversations into long-term memory — every 10, 20, or 30 messages. Higher frequency captures short-lived context; lower frequency produces leaner, higher-signal memory.
Persona Selection
Choose from native Gemini, Descartes, Bertrand Russell, or define your own custom persona. Separate persona assignments for each of the three Debate roles.
Prompts Tab
Define Janus's role, responsibilities, technical resources, and communication style in a structured configuration form that persists across all sessions and modes.
Search that understands relationships, not just text
Knowledge Search traverses the connections between your tasks, notes, and project context to return results that are actually relevant.
Semantic Search
Search across all your to-do lists, Janus conversations, and memory fragments with natural language queries — not just keyword matching.
Memory Retrieval
Surface past decisions, recurring patterns, and notes from earlier in a project. Janus draws on this same index to ground every new conversation.
Instant Preview
Results surface the relevant context inline — task text, conversation excerpt, or memory fragment — so you can act without navigating away.
Stay across everything without constant checking
In-app and email notifications keep you informed about shared list activity, task changes, and project events — configurable to your own signal-to-noise preference.
Notification Drawer
Real-time in-app notification drawer with unread count. Events include task completions on shared lists, Janus suggestions, and project-wide updates.
Push & Email
Per-user configuration for which events trigger push notifications versus email alerts. Silence low-priority events without turning off notifications entirely.
Activity Feed
A chronological log of all actions on your tasks and shared lists, including who made each change and when. Useful for async teams across time zones.
